Review: I've Got Your Back: A Leadership Parable

I've Got Your Back: A Leadership Parable
I've Got Your Back: A Leadership Parable by James C. Galvin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have to admit that I am a fan boy of reading a lot of books on leadership and self-improvement. Sometimes probably I spend time reading that I should be doing. So, having stated that disclaimer (I would probably read the leadership secrets of Hitler....) Here are some themes from the book that struck a chord with me:

1. His emphasis on followership
2. The three levels of leadership followership.
3. Godly good advice about following well.

How would I rate this book? I am thinking it is a solid B. I loved the first part about the story. The story was an A grade. the second half was ok but I am always wary of putting a theme together from Verses all over the Bible. If it were me, I would have built the theological section just around the Paul/Timothy dynamic. But I have yet to write a book so I am just a lame armchair quarterback here. But I am throwing my opinion out there for the 3 people that read my blog to hear....

The bottom line is that I am happy to have it in my library and will use it as a reference much in the same way that I have the Bible and Getting Things Done.

Review: Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity, and the Things We've Made Up

Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity, and the Things We've Made Up
Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity, and the Things We've Made Up by Francis Chan

My rating: 0 of 5 stars

Very somber and sobering book. He wrestles with the tough question of how can a good God have a hell.
I like his writing style and his honesty. So I say, "friends don't let friends go to hell." Please join me in boycotting Hell.

Review: Guitar Zero: The New Musician and the Science of Learning

Guitar Zero: The New Musician and the Science of Learning
Guitar Zero: The New Musician and the Science of Learning by Gary Marcus

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book overall. It does get somewhat technical in the learning theory and brain functions and I am sure I went fast through that.

The bottom line is that it gives me hope to continue on in my Guitar journey.

I do plan to contact him to ask about what iphone ear training software he benefited from and what if any practice tips he may have.
